TopDog Driving School is owned and operated by Steve Hall who is a fully qualified Driving Instructor with more than 30 years experience and is registered and licenced by the Driving & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). I am also a registered Pass Plus and Fleet Training Instructor.

TopDog Driving School opened in May 2006 offering top quality driving lessons to the public. Prior to this I spent more than 15 years working for one of the UK’s largest public transport providers where I taught people to drive buses and coaches to the standard required of a professional driver. I also worked on training strategies both locally and nationally. During my career I have literally helped 1000’s of people to achieve their goal and pass their driving test.

I aim to provide safe and enjoyable learning experience that meets your needs at a competitive cost. I don’t claim to be the cheapest, but I will provide you with quality tuition which should enable you to reach your goal in a shorter time span therefore saving you money in the long- term.

When choosing an Driving Instructor please ensure your Instructor is Fully Qualified (not all of them are), some are trainee instructors and can be recognised due to the red/pink badges they display. A Green badge shows you they are Fully Qualified. If your paying for Professional Lessons make sure you get a Fully Qualified Instructor

I t’s quite normal to be nervous/apprehensive, after all this is a new experience and you don’t know me. Don’t worry apart from teaching you to drive it is my job to make sure you are safe, I don’t shout or loose my temper just because you made a mistake & what would be the point! And after all you are learning and are bound to make mistakes along the way.

The simple reason I don’t do 1hr lessons is it doesn’t give you sufficient time to practice and develop all the skills you need to master. According to the DVSA if you take 1hr lessons you will require at least 40hrs (10 months) tuition with an instructor as well as private lessons in a family car. By having 2hr lessons typically my learners should be ready for their practical driving test in 3-4 months.

While it is possible to do as long a lesson as you would like I don’t advise more than 2hrs at a time because most people can’t concentrate for longer than 2hrs.

Fully Qualified Instructor ADI - When looking for an instructor always ask if they are fully qualified most of the larger driving schools use trainee instructors as well as fully qualified ones. They don’t normally tell you they are trainee instructors which means you are paying them while they learn!!! (ask them what colour their ADI licence is Green is Fully Qualified while Red/Pink indicates that they are a Trainee the licence must be displayed in the windscreen of the car).

Very Experienced (over 30 years) - As with many things in life you can’t beat experience. I have driven various types of vehicles over the years from cars to buses/coaches and trucks. For 15 years I taught professional drivers to drive buses and coaches. I bring this invaluable experience to my driving lessons.

Friendly & Patient - Driving lessons should be fun and informative allowing you to develop your skills in a safe environment. You have probably heard stories from friends of instructors who shout at them!!!!! I do not shout at anyone at anytime, I can control the lesson without shouting, I treat everyone the same as I would like to be treated.

High Pass Rates - Unfortunately it’s not possible for everyone to pass first time, although I strive to maintain and improve on my pass rates. There are driving schools that claim 90% or even 100% pass rates!!!! Remember if it sounds to good to be true......then it probably is to good to be true!!!

Pass Plus Approved - I am registered to deliver Pass Plus taking you to the next level helping you to develop your skills reducing the risk of being involved in an accident and reduce the dreaded car insurance bill.

Free On-Line Theory Test Training Material - All my pupils are offered free unlimited use of the material which covers both the multi choice and the hazard perception. They are free to go at there own pace. I can provide help and assistance as and where required.

Registered Fleet Trainer - I am registered to deliver training to staff of companies to help develop their driving skills and ensure a safe working environment.

When looking for driving lessons very often people only consider how much an hour it is going to cost! Not how many hours it is going to take!

I am not the cheapest Driving Instructor in Telford and I am not the most expensive. Top quality Tuition from a fully qualified experienced ADI is what makes taking lessons from me your best all round option.

Motorway Lessons are available either before or after passing your driving test, however they carry an additional charge due to the extra mileage covered.

My Driving School car is available to pupils for your Practical Driving Test (for the cost of using the driving school car for your test please contact the instructor. Price includes a 1 hour lesson before test, the use of my car and insurance cover for the duration of the test).

The Instructor will provide the pupil with Driving tuition, at the rate per lesson which has been communicated to the pupil.

Payments may be made by cash, cheque or bank transfer, payments should be made to the Instructor at the start   of each lesson. Payment by Bank Transfer should be made on the day before the lesson is due to take place. Any outstanding accounts must be settled prior to the start of the Practical driving test.

Matters concerning the timing, duration and location of individual lessons are subject to agreement between the Instructor and pupil.

The Instructor may rearrange any appointment to a time suitable for both parties if the Instructor is not available for any reason whatsoever.

The pupil may only make lesson cancellations directly with the Instructor. In   respect   of   cancellations,   48   hours notice   must   be   given   (not   including   Saturdays,   Sundays   or   Bank   Holidays),   otherwise   the   lesson   will   be charged   in   full.   Failure   to   pay   may   result   in   you   incurring   further   costs/charges   incurred   in   recovering   these debts

Special offers/concessions may be withdrawn without notice at the discretion of the instructor.

The Instructor reserves the right to refuse the use of the tuition vehicle for the Practical Driving Test if, in the Instructor’s professional opinion, the pupil has not reached a sufficient standard of competence to take full responsibility for the safety of the vehicle or other road users.

Should you wish to use the driving school car for your practical driving test you will be supplied with a suitable vehicle (normally the car you have been learning in). However once the test has commenced and the vehicle has left the test centre then no responsibility will be excepted should a defect develop that leads to the termination of the practical driving test.

It is hereby expressly agreed that this Contract is made solely between the Instructor, as principal, and the pupil. In relation to bookings, supply of information or documentation and the processing of payments.

All pre-payments, once accepted by the Company, cannot be refunded unless the services of TopDog Driving School are no longer available, and must be used within 6 months of date of purchase.

By the booking of a driving lesson(s) you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

COVID-19. Due to the Corona virus in-order to reduce the risk of infection anyone cancelling due to covid symptoms will need to obtain a test (a proven positive test will result in you not being charged for the lesson). You will also not be able to book another lesson for at least 14 days in-line with government advice. Unless you have a medical condition all leaner's will be required to wear a face mask, if you don’t have one I will provide one although you will be charged £1 each time, in addition pupils will need to wash their hands before lessons (if this is not possible hand sanitizer will be available in car. The car will be wiped with disinfectant before and after each lesson and at least once a week the car will be completely disinfected (fogged)
